Acheber High School Students Support
We currently have 114 high school students we’re supporting outside of Acheber since there is no high school in Acheber. 29 students live in Tulu Bolo attending 11th and 12th grades. Among those, 14 seniors have taken the national exam and awaiting results. If they pass, they will attend colleges tuition-free, subsidized by the government. The other 85 students are in Harba Chulule attending 9th and 10th grades. The youth leader resides in Harba Chulue and continues to play a vital role as a nurturing adult influence as well as providing proper supervision of these students.
There was sad news out of Acheber this past winter. One of our senior students was killed in a tragic car accident. EAVO was able to reach out to the family of this student by providing financial and emotional support. Approximately 5,000 Ethiopian Birr ($370) was personally delivered to the family by our representative in Ethiopia, Hailu Ibssa, and a visiting American guest, Ann Delagnes from Lakeside Church. They were able to communicate our condolences to the family, and they were very appreciative of this gesture.
Roben Jirecha Shool Porject
The main frameworks for new classrooms have been completed in preparation for the addition of 5th and 6th grades to the elementary school in Roben Jirecha. The floors to the classrooms have been cemented, outside reinforcement concrete has been completed and the fence is under construction. This school has never provided education more than the 4th grade level in the past. The locals have been excited about the addition of new classrooms and have greatly contributed manpower and local materials.
EAVO has a vision to continue to improve the elementary school in Roben Jirecha. We would eventually like to add 7th and 8th grades to the school so that the students completing 6th grade will have a local school to attend. In the not too distant future, we would also like to build a youth housing center in Awash (the nearest town that has a High School). Roben Jirecha students finishing 8th grade will then be able to attend high school in Awash and use this center as a residence.
Apple Trees:
The Apple trees we gave out last year to Acheber farmers are growing and thriving well. If successful, farmers will be able to increase their income by more than 4 fold, a conservative estimate.
Kindergarten in Acheber
The KG built in 2006 has 81 students currently attending the KG and thriving. In addition to basic education, they continue to benefit from the spiritual and mentoring programs. The KG is also being used as a church building for the community on Sundays. Approximately 26 church members attend the 2 hour service every Sunday. EAVO has recently sent $2,500 to construct a latrine for the KG. The plan is to have the latrine completed after the rainy season passes.
Balchi Spring Water Protection
This is a project that is being undertaken in collaboration with Guenet Church in Ethiopia. The project’s aim is to protect a spring in this region in order to provide clean drinking water for its people. Many thanks to those who donated for this purpose, those funds have been sent to Guenet Church for the completion of spring water protection project. Work will begin once the rainy season passes.
Evangelism Support
EAVO continues its commitment to financially support Evangelists working in the Acheber and Roben Jericha regions. Please pray for success in these two regions.
